Members of the Shrewsbury Royal Air Force Association (RAFA) have visited RAF Shawbury to view the facilities and training at the Station.

The event was organised by the Deputy RAFA Liaison Officer at the north Shropshire airbase, Flight Sergeant Marie Kennedy, who looks after the Shrewsbury Branch and assists Sergeant Jason Jones in his role as the RAFA Liaison Officer.

The visit was organised to thank the guests for all there work in the local community. They visited No 1 Hangar and had an enthralling tour led by Rachael Abbiss, the Curator of the Assault Glider Trust.

The group then went to No 3 Hangar and were given a tour of the service and maintenance of the Squirrel helicopter, which is used for the early part of the training of crews at the unit. Later in the tour the group were taken to the Aircraft Maintenance and Storage Unit to view some of the aircraft in storage including a Sea Harrier and many Hawk fast jet training aircraft. The tour ended with a look at the Visual Simulator of the Central Air Traffic Control School.

The group also enjoyed lunch in the Warrant Officers and Sergeants Mess accompanied by the Station Commander, Group Captain 'Bunny' James. After the meal the Station Commander was presented with a plate by the Shrewsbury Branch to be put up in the Aries room in the Officer's Mess
