I think it is a great site honouring those brave people of the regiment, many of seconded from the RAF.
I wonder how many glider pilots were trained at No: 4 BFTS at Falcon Field in Arizona.

Thanks to everyone involved in the Horsa project for a very memorable day out for my father and myself.
We both had a great time at the Open Day yesterday (Sat 1st Sep) and look forwards to coming down again for the next one.

An excellent informative series of pages, leaving me wanting to know more as I am already researching the operation to capture Pegasus Bridge for a feature length film. Any help would be appreciated.

Glad to see the progress with the aircraft. I am Head of History and Politics at Bury Grammar school and organiser/guide of an annual school battlefields tour. In 2003 we visited Arnhem and I researched the two former pupils of our school who fought in the battle-Sergeant Harry Parkinson and Lt. Des Turner, both glider pilots. Parkinson was killed by a German aircraft strafing the Hartenstein and is buried at Oosterbeek but Des Turner survived to tell the tale, dying in 2001. We would very much like to visit the Trust in conjunction with a planned second Arnhem tour in the next couple of years.Name: Geoffrey Guild

Thru a link from Arthur Underwood's wonderful website www.gprasw.speedy.uk.net I have made contact again with Ray Conningham & the assaultgliderproject.co.uk...after some years-this undertaking , takes my breath away.Such progress with the project since I last saw it ! In these cynical and alien modern days where often I seem a stranger in my own land. It sets such an example to us all of sheer effort and acheivment. Such a magnificent living example of "Nothing is Impossible". It gives great encouragement, to those of us who try and carry on with smaller projects that also seek also to remind our people and the world of the shining Glider Pilot Regiment Royal Engineers and Royal Air Force. The Double Hills Arnhem Remembrance Service & Parade is early this year 9th September 2007 Muster 1400 Hrs latest. This will be the 29th anniversary in which Somerset Village Paulton Nr Bath remembers the 21 Airborne Sappers RE and 2 Glider pilots who died in our village when their Horsa Glider RJ114 crashed and exploded in a village meadow called Double Hills 17th Sept 1944 en route to Arnhem. The first casualties of Arnhem. Double Hills salute the Assault Glider Trust and the magnificent effort which continues. We celebrate also the wonderful Anglo-American acheivement with our allies that made the world free. Every year Representatives from RAF Fairford attend Double Hills from the USAFE. From this wartime kid 7 year old in 1944, and National Servcieman 55-58. I thank Ray Conningham and his band for this great encouragement to us to keep going as the autumn leaves begin the fall in our years. On behald our President Brigadier Mike Dauncey GPRA & Peter Yeates-Bob Williams Double Hills Organisers. 41 Riverside Way Hanham Bristol BS15 3TF PS Few people have the privilege of sitting on those benches within the Horsa Glider-at one time in the early days of the small AAC Museum this was possible. Now one can take a virtual tour at Asault Glider Trust website and visualise the ordeal of our Glider Pilots & Soldiers. The expansion of the AAC Museum at Middle Wallop owes so very much to Major Nick Nicholls as we all know. Chairman of the Glider Pilot Regimental Association he still gives this day, this week, and everyday and every week such a great unsung contribution to the Veterans, the Association and Army Flying.

I have been following the development of the Horsa for several years and I could go to visit this one at Shawbury. What a marvellous machine. In the UK, I had privilege to meet members of the trust, and GPR valorous pilots. Some of them are now very very good friends. I am happy with that. This Horsa is truly a great achievement. This realization was scheduled to be a memorial to the troops who went inta action in gliders. It's now an accomplished mission. The Webmaster, has to be congratulated; he made a fabulous web site. Congratulations to all those who have participated to this memory mission.

What a fabulous web site and interesting subject, something I was completely unaware about until one of my listeners to the radio show and video productions got in touch with me.
I will come back and keep a keen interest.

I am really fascinated by the gliders used. My Grandfather was one of those that helped to build them, and I did not find out for years.

We were very interested in your site as our grandfather - Arthur Mannion (pte 4918694 of the South Staffs Regiment) - was one of the gliders shot down on 9-10 th July 1943 during the sicily invasion. We know very little about him and would like to hear from anyone who may have known him.

I've been following your progress for several years now. I'm also great friends with Harry Clark, who was on the second glider to land in Normandy of Maj Howard's coup de main force. I am so very happy to see you're continuing to preserve the history of the gallant men of the GPR and of the Airlanding Regiments of the 1st and 6th Airborne Divisions.

As a former Army Air Corps soldier, I am very well acquainted with the activities of the Glider Pilot Regiment and their "steeds".
I have volunteered to assist the renovation and upkeep of these historic artefacts and would urge as many like-minded people to support this part of our heritage similarly.
Onwards & upwards
Regards,
Dave
