Radio Controlled Glider Wing

An exciting new development is the donation of a number of Radio Controlled model aircraft by the Arnhem Memorial Flight. These aircraft, along with others to be built at Shawbury, will be operated by the "Flying Wing" of the Assault Glider Trust. One of the gliders is to be dedicated to the memory of Mr Frank Hargraves, former leader of the Arnhem Memorial Flight who died on 17th September 2003, the anniversary of his descent into Arnhem with the South Staffords. The Frank Hargraves Horsa will carry his name, the South Staffords badge, the correct serial number and the names of the members of the Glider Pilot Regiment pilots who flew the Horsa to Arnhem. Both pilots still survive.

Breaking News: Two of the Radio Controlled Horsa models have been returned to the air at RAF Shawbury. Performance was said to be suprisingly good. The gliders were 'tugged' by a modern sports model aircraft, as the Dakota models are not yet airworthy.

Whilst the Assault Glider project aircraft will never fly, the spirit of the assault glider will be seen in the air again in the form of these model aircraft.

An Airspeed Horsa in the circuit. Is this a full size aircraft, or is it a model?

This is most definitely the 9 foot wingspan flying model glider. It looks wonderful in the air.

This is one of the Dakota aircraft use to tow the gliders.

Horsa model on finals, note the large 'barn door' landing flaps.
